According to the 2015-2016 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, McGill University placed 38th overall out of the 800 worldwide ranked universities. Meanwhile, Université de Montreal is ranked 113rd and other universities such as Université de Laval Concordia University and Université du Québec à Montréal, are ranked in the lower levels.
There are a total of 25 Canadian university listed in the ranking list. University of Toronto is the highest ranked Canadian school with the 19th position, followed by the University of British Columbia at 34. This makes McGill the third highest-ranked of all Canadian universities. The top overall ranked is the California Institutes of Technology. There are 13 criteria of ranking, divided into different aspects: international outlook, teaching, research, industry income and citations.
